postcard
is
the
reenacted
publishing
room
of the "
Placer
Times
"
newspaper
,
set
in
Sutter's
Fort
, at
Twenty-Seventh
and
K
streets
. The
paper
was
started
at the
fort
in
April
1849
,
running
through
June
1950
.
One
of its
original
employees
was a
young
James
McClatchy
,
who
was
charged
with
covering
the
new
Legislature
in
San
Jose
.
McClatchy
would
go
on to
found
the "
Sacramento
Bee
" in
1857
.
