Title	Capital Camp Members on Parade
Date	1931
Description	In this July 4, 1931, photograph, a group of axe-carrying young men, representing Capital Camp, make their way eastward on K Street, between Ninth and Tenth Streets. 1931’s Independence Day proved a memorable one in Sacramento: 17 fires were started throughout the city on July 4 alone from fireworks, while over 30 were started in the five days leading up to the holiday. So severe was the outbreak that Fire Chief M.J. Dunphy proposed a ban on the sale of fireworks within city limits. The City and the Southside Improvement Club gave a controlled show at Southside Park at Eighth and S Streets. The photograph also shows the Sierra Theater at 909 K Street, Hale Brothers Department Store at 825 K Street, Chinn-Beretta Optical Company at 901 K Street, Stanley's Men's Clothing at 905 K Street, the Savoy Coffee Shop, Purnell’s Stationery Company at 915 K Street, and the Vienna Restaurant Bakery at 917 K Street.
