Title	California State Capitol Building Nearing Completion
Date	1869
Description	Resting upon two tiers of added earth at Tenth Street, between L and N Streets, is the California State Capitol building in 1869. The building’s grounds are barren, save a few saplings. Below the building’s façade are several workers. A ladder is hoisted just beneath the building’s pediment. Construction of the building spanned 18 years, starting in 1861. A considerable impasse was caused by the American Civil War – 1861 to 1865 – and its demands on both men and materiel.
