Title	The Diepenbrock Theater

Description	This circa 1913 photograph shows the Diepenbrock Theater at 1203 J Street. The picture also shows signage atop the building which reads “Orpheum Shows Theater.” The Orpheum was the vaudeville-style company that provided much of the live entertainment at the venue. The company travelled throughout the west, playing at similar theaters. The pictured building opened as the Diepenbrock in March 1911, and was named after its founder and owner, the German-born Meichlor Diepenbrock. After a run as the Diepenbrock, the theater then became the Strand, operating from 1915 to 1920; then, in 1923, Loew’s State Theater. The building was destroyed by fire in August 1927.
