field
replaced
a
previous
venture
at
Del
Paso
Park
which
was
scuttled
largely
due
to its
lengthy
distance
from
Sacramento's
city
center
.
Accordingly
, the
City
of
Sacramento
puchased
roughly
235-acres
of
farmland
and
open
space
from
A.H
.
Suggett
for
80,000
dollars
,
effectively
creating
a
municipal
airport
,
just
two
miles
south
of the
Capitol
building
. A
runway
-
one
of
three
-
stands
just
behind
the
structure
which
was
officially
dedicated
in
September
1931
with a
dance
on the
hangar
floor
.
