.
Built
in
1916
, the
structure
was a
two-lane
,
400,000
dollar
project
that
traversed
the
Yolo
Bypass
,
eliminating
the
need
to
use
a
ferry
to
traverse
the
often-flooded
stretch
between
Sacramento
and the
Bay
Area
. The
photograph
shows
the
causeway
just
after
its
transformation
into a
four
lane
operation
,
making
it
42-feet
wide
. Also
incorporating
a
pedestrian
lane
on its
south
side
, the
total
cost
for the
expansion
was
523,638
.
