travelers
that
made
their
way
to
Sacramento
for the
Grand
Electric
Carnival
and
California
Admission
Day
festivities
are
seen
making
their
way
to
transportation
and
accommodations
in
preparation
. The
picture
captures
a
view
from
Second
and
I
Streets
,
looking
southward
. A
large
sign
welcomes
members
of the
Native
Sons
of the
Golden
West
,
perhaps
the
highest
profile
participants
of the
festivities
.
Founded
in
1875
, the
group
sought
to
preserve
the
historical
memory
of
Anglo-European
California
. The
group
was
instrumental
in
providing
lodging
for
visitors
to the
overwhelmed
city
, as they
compiled
a
list
of
private
homes
and
hotels
allowing
reservations
at a
uniform
price
of
one
dollar
per
person
,
two
dollars
for a
double
bed
.
