Title	Shepard Lines' "Harpoon" in Sacramento
Date	1934
Description	This March 2, 1934, photograph shows the 10,000 ton intercoastal freighter "Harpoon" of the Shepard Lines, moored along the Sacramento River at N Street. The boat's arrival came at the behest of William Stone, an early proponent of Sacramento as a major inland port. His efforts helped Sacramento qualify as a terminal rate port. The "Harpoon" was, up to that time, the largest ship to sail the Sacramento River. A tugboat rests to port while a small motor boat operates in the foreground.
