Steve
George
, a
sports
casting
legend
in
Sacramento
for
over
60
years
. A
native
of
Butte
,
Montana
,
George
took
a
position
with the
Sacramento
Union
in the
early
1920s
. With the
advent
of the
Second
World
War
, he then
edited
the
“McClellan
Field,”
a
newspaper
that was
circulated
to
nearly
75,000
civilians
. He
is
perhaps
best
known
for his
founding
of
KGMS
is
1952
. He
stayed
with the
station
until
1987
and,
prior
to
retiring
, he
told
the
“Sacramento
Union”
the
following
:
“I
really
don’t
know
what
I’ll
do
.
I
don’t
golf
,
don’t
play
cards
, and
I’m
a
lousy
drinker
.
That’s
what’s
worrying
me.”
George
passed
away
a
year
later
at the
age
of
86
.
