workers
stand

front
of, and
beside
, the
Central
Pacific
Railroad’s
first
depot
and
ticket
office
at
Front
and
I
Streets
.
It
was
designed
in
1863
by
Collis
P
.
Huntington
, and
built
in
one
afternoon
at a
cost
of
150
dollars
. The
originally-planned
depot
would have
cost
the
frugal
Huntington
an
estimated
12,000
dollars
. The
building
was also
used
for
storing
tools
,
plus
it
boasted
a
vise
and a
small
forge
. The
station
was
replaced
in
1867
, but the
original
structure
stood
until
1908
.
