Title	Original Central Pacific Depot
Date	1863
Description	As captured in this 1863 photograph, several rail workers stand in front of, and beside, the Central Pacific Railroad’s first depot and ticket office at Front and I Streets. It was designed in 1863 by Collis P. Huntington, and built in one afternoon at a cost of 150 dollars. The originally-planned depot would have cost the frugal Huntington an estimated 12,000 dollars. The building was also used for storing tools, plus it boasted a vise and a small forge. The station was replaced in 1867, but the original structure stood until 1908.
