, the
two-room
structure
is
the
oldest
standing
educational
institution
in
Sacramento
County
.
Originally
opened
in
1869
, the
school
was
rebuilt
twice
after
fires
in
1874
and
1897
leveled
other
buildings
.
It
closed
in
1953
, but was
rehabilitated
to
house
a
parent
observation
center
and
nursery
in the
1960s
. In
1998
, the
schoolhouse
was
repainted
,
restoring
its
original
tan
and
brown-colored
body
with
blue
eaves
.
