school’s
southwestern
entrance
.

runs
before
them.
Originally
known
as
Elmhurst
School
, the
Byzantine-style
structure
was
built
in
1921
for
209,000
dollars
. Its
construction
was
part
of a
veritable
education
boom
,
whereby
,
between
1920
and
1923
, the
Sacramento
City
Schools
added
twelve
new
schools
to the
district
.
Coloma
was
closed
in
1972
as
it
was
deemed
to be
earthquake
unsafe
.
It
then
became
a
community
center
in the
early
1980s
.
