single-screen
Village
Theater
at
2925
Fulton
Avenue
.
California
architect
Gastono
“Gale”
Santocono
designed
the
Village
,
one
of
fifteen
movie
theaters
that he
worked
on in
California
,
Colorado
and
Nevada
. The
Santocono
family
,
which
settled
in
Alameda
, was a
family
of
painters
who
continued
the
age-old
tradition
of
Italian
fresco
or
“ceiling
painting”
within
California’s
burgeoning
theater
industry
.
Visible
in this
photograph
are
several
of
Santocono’s
creations
,
both
along
the
walls
and
ceiling
. The
company
that
constructed
and
operated
the
theater
was
headed
by
Julian
Harvey
.
Harvey
,
who
also
owned
the
Showcase
Theater
on
412
L
Street
, was
part
of
northern
California’s
motion
picture
and
theater
business
for
well
over
60
years
. He
operated
the
Village
until
1972
and
passed
away
in
April
of
1985
.
