Title	Streetcar and Cathedral on K Street
Date	1939
Description	This westerly view, from the intersection of Twelfth and K Streets, was taken in 1939. On the right are the towering spires of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, built in 1889 for 250,000 dollars. Its design was directed by the Sacramento Diocese’s first Archbishop, Patrick Manogue who found inspiration in Paris’ medieval Église St-Germain-des-Prés. To the left and built in 1925 is a corner of the Weinstock, Lubin and Company department store. The visible column possesses a capitol which is a composite of Doric and Corinthian styles. Beside the Cathedral is a Pacific Gas and Electric streetcar. Stepping from it is a woman, clad in hat and fur-collared coat. Automobiles are parked along the street and a few pedestrians walk along in front of the department store. The Pacific Gas and Electric offices on K Street are also visible, as is the Hippodrome Theater. Beyond that, and in the distance, is the turret of the United States Post Office and Federal Building at the northwest corner of Seventh and K Streets.
