Originally
established
in
1897
,
ground
was
broken
on a
new
building
in
1915
and
underwent
several
additions
and
renovations
before
its
closure
in
1973
. At the
lower
section
of the
photograph
and
facing
Stockton
Boulevard
is
the
hospital's
incomplete
administrative
building
,
constructed
by
Sacramento-based
William
C
.
Keating
Construction
for
358,000
dollars
. In
addition
to
containing
a
reception
desk
and the
offices
of the
Hospital
Superintendent
and
Head
Nurse
, the
building
contained
the
primary
surgery
unit
, and an
emergency
operating
room
.
