After
1.3
million
dollars
in
construction
expenses
were
approved
by the
United
States
Congress
in
1931
,
building
could
commence
on the
Classical
Roman-style
building
.
750,000
bricks
,
60,000
sacks
of
cement
,
1,600
tons
of
steel
framing
,
make
up
the
four
story
building
,
designed
by the
Sacramento
architecture
firm
of
Starks
and
Flanders
. The
Post
Office
finally
opened
on
November
6
,
1933
.
Just
beyond
the
building
, and to the
right
of the
photograph
,
is
Sacramento’s
City
Hall
.
