speedy

center-fielding
McNeely
went
on to
become
the
hero
of the
1924
World
Series
as,

playing
for the
Washington
Senators
, he
drove
in the
winning
run
in the
twelfth-inning
of
game
seven
of the
series
with the
New
York
Giants
.
McNeely
had been
sold
to
Washington
by the
Solons’
then-owner
,
Lew
Moreing
, for
50,000
dollars
. He
played
for
Sacramento
from
1922
and
1924
,
prior
to
spending
eight
years
in the
American
League
with a
batting
average
of.272
.
Upon
returning
to
Sacramento
and
residing
in
Orangevale
,
McNeely
became
the
Solons’
manager
in
1932
. He
eventually
went
into the
farming
and
cattle
business
until
retiring
in
1959
. He
died
in
1971
.
