. The
business
was
founded
in
1923
and, by
1954
, was
distributing
its
bread
as
far
north
as
Redding
and as
far
south
as
Lodi
.
It
also
prided
itself
as the
only
major
Sacramento
bakery
that
twisted
their
dough
before
baking
, the
idea
being
that
two
lengths
of
dough
twisted
about
one
another
need
to
rise
only
half
the
distance
,
thereby
making
a
fuller
and
fresher
loaf
.
Prior
to
taking
the
name
of the
Rainbo
Baking
Company
in
1958
, the
company
was
known
as the
Old
Home
Bakers
,
bakers
of
Betsy
Ross
Bread
,
hence
the
Betsy
Ross
brand
billboard
to the
right
side
of the
photograph
.
